  • Produces harmful toxins when heated to 121° or hotter. If hemp seed oil is overheated it produces harmful peroxides which can cause significant damage to the skin, tissues or organs. It’s also flammable and mildly explosive. For those reasons, if you are going to cook with hemp seed oil, it is best to use it on lukewarm or cold dishes only. And only ever store in a cool, dark place.

  • Cardiac risk. While our bodies need a certain amount of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, an excess of these polyunsaturated fats can lead to cardiac problems. To avoid this, only ever consume the recommended dose. If you already suffer from cardiac issues or are extremely overweight, hemp seed oil may not be your best option for pain relief.

  • Blood coagulation. In some cases, hemp oil affects the way in which blood platelets and anticoagulants work. These are essential in the blood clotting process. Hemp seed oil can cause the blood to thicken and clot, eventually causing a heart attack. Anyone already suffering from heart problems should definitely consult a doctor before using hemp seed oil.

  • Brain development issues. While the right dose of hemp seed oil has been known to alleviate some of the effects of Parkinson’s disease, over-consumption could worsen or even trigger the symptoms. It has also been proven that it can slow the development of the brain due to its imbalance in fatty acids. There are far more Omega-6 fatty acids than there is Omega-3 and the latter is what’s essential in brain development. Not getting enough of this fatty acid in comparison to Omega-6 can hinder the development of the brain.

While some users with tumors have reported a slowing down or stopping of the growth of tumors after using hemp seed oil, others have not been quite so lucky. One of the reasons for this is that hemp oil is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids. This gives it properties that trigger the reproduction of cells. And while it’s great for healing skin complaints, it also increases the risk of cancerous cells being regenerated. To try and avoid this, researchers suggest a reduction in the number of dietary fats.

While these high levels are very good at treating inflammation and promoting a healthy heart, they can also cause bacterial growth within the body.

  • The onset of allergies. With the number of proteins, fibers, minerals, and other essential nutrients that are found in hemp seed oil, it’s clearly a superfood with some amazing properties. However, some of those same ingredients that make it so effective can also cause allergies too. Valine, arginine, and glutamic acid are some of the main culprits, although any amino acid found in hemp seed oil could potentially trigger an allergy.
