Beginner’s Guide to CBD Vape Oil

No trend has taken the smoking industry by storm in recent years as much as vaping. And while many assume vapers are in it for the “buzz,” this is not entirely true. Vaping essential oils provide therapeutic benefits and the use of cannabis oils can also be intended to provide relief from chronic issues.

CBD oil, which is derived from cannabis, does not have the euphoric effect associated with THC from cannabis. Thus vaping CBD oil does not produce any kind of high, rather it is used for its therapeutic properties.

Here, we’ll explore the fundamentals of how vaping works and how CBD vape oil is beneficial to users.

(And a quick note before we get started: a vaper is a person vaping, and a vaporizer is the device used!)

What Is Vaping?

Vaping grew into a phenomenon after being introduced to the mass market in the early 2000s. Users of e-cigarettes and other devices inhale and exhale an aerosol or “vapor.”

Devices used for vaping have a mouthpiece, a cartridge, a heating component, and a battery. The e-liquid or e-juice used in the device may contain nicotine, but not tobacco, which is why the trend has been associated with those seeking an alternative to smoking cigarettes, for both health reasons as well as a break on the wallet since vaping is cheaper.

The heating component of a vaporizer pulls energy from the battery to heat the e-liquid, and when you inhale clouds travel through the vaporizer’s air path. The discreet and “quick hit” associated with vaping is often preferred to “regular” smoking.

Types of Vaporizers

Vaping does not create second-hand smoke, rather it creates a second-hand aerosol. Unlike regular tobacco cigarettes, vaporizers typically produce a pleasant odor. The vapor produced looks thicker than smoke but it also quickly dissipates. While most use e-liquids in vaporizers, other materials can be used, including dry herbs and waxy concentrates. Cartridges can be switched out in multipurpose vaporizers to alternate between materials if desired.

Types of Vaporizers

There are a wide variety of different vaporizers available for all needs and budgets, and we will take a look at those most commonly associated with vaping CBD oil (and other oils).

Oil vaporizers can be broken down into three categories: cigalike vaporizers, vape pens, and desktop vaporizers.

Cigalike vaporizers are rapidly decreasing in popularity. Though the cartridges are easy to swap out, they can contain additives rather than pure oil. Desktop vaporizers are also a less favored choice because of their bulk. Rather than using a mouthpiece, they typically have a balloon or hose used to inhale the vapor.

By far the most popular type of vaporizer is the vape pen, which can be loaded with the oil of your choice. They are compact and discreet and work well for those wishing to try CBD oil vaping.

What Is CBD Oil?

Cannabidiol oil or CBD oil comes from cannabis buds and flowers; it is extracted from their resin glands. It can also be extracted from hemp, with lower concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC (which is the cannabis compound associated with a high).

While THC has a psychoactive effect when it works with receptors in our bodies, CBD does not. And perhaps this has no appeal for recreational cannabis users, but CBD offers a wide range of other benefits to users. (Recreational cannabis users should be aware that ONE of those benefits is an antidote to being “overly high.” CBD can actually reduce the euphoric effects associated with THC, lessening paranoia or other unwelcome side effects from THC!).

Vaping with CBD Oil

CBD oil is used in vaporizers to provide relief from a wide variety of illnesses and health concerns. An alternative to oil drops, some people simply prefer the experience of vaping, be they former cigarette smokers who are trying to quit or someone who simply doesn’t like the taste or sensation of the drops.

Vaping with CBD Oil

Ingesting CBD oil from drops takes longer to get to your bloodstream; the CBD vaping experience provides a much quicker entrance into the bloodstream and thus you will feel its benefits faster.

For vapers, the CBD oil can be enhanced with various flavors to add to the experience, with fruit flavors often being the most popular. CBD hemp oil can be purchased without a prescription as it has no psychoactive properties (unlike THC oil).

CBD oil can come in bottles or cartridges, depending on the type of vaporizer you are using. If your vaporizer has adjustable heat settings you can tweak these to experiment with yielding the highest concentration of CBD vapor.

The relief associated with vaping CBD oil is significant to those who suffer from anxiety or depression, conditions which are often treated with prescription drugs. Those medicines can have unfortunate and adverse side effects, so CBD is growing in popularity as a natural alternative. CBD interacts with the brain’s receptors for serotonin, which plays a part in regulating moods and behavior.

Cancer patients use CBD oil for relief as well and studies have shown its effectiveness in reducing the nausea and vomiting associated with cancer-related treatments. Recent research also indicates it may have cancer-fighting and anti-tumoral properties, which is extremely promising though there is much more research to be done.

Because CBD has anti-inflammatory qualities, the use of CBD oil could even play into reducing acne! In the coming years, we will see more studies devoted to understanding its effectiveness in treating a wide variety of conditions, from neurological disorders to cancer and beyond.

The use of CBD oil to treat any medical conditions should always be discussed with a physician. While there are rarely any adverse effects associated with CBD, it is always best to keep an open line of communication with a physician about any and all treatments, whether they are natural compounds or prescription medications.
